General Information

What is an NSID?
A National Sports ID is a verified digital ID issued to a youth athlete after their eligibility documents are reviewed and approved. The Sports ID confirms the athlete’s verified age and grade level and can be presented to leagues and tournaments to confirm eligibility. The Sports ID can be accessed on a mobile device or printed if needed for events. Learn more about Player Age Verification.

Why do leagues and tournaments require a National Sports ID?
Youth sports organizations use National Sports ID to help ensure fair play and accurate eligibility verification. Instead of reviewing physical birth certificates, report cards, or other documents at check-in, leagues and tournaments can rely on a verified digital Sports ID.

This helps event organizers:

• Reduce check-in delays at tournaments
• Prevent the use of altered or incorrect documents
• Ensure athletes are competing in the correct age or grade division
• Maintain a consistent verification process across teams and events

By verifying documents in advance, National Sports ID helps leagues and tournaments operate more efficiently while protecting the integrity of youth competition. Read more about an NSID Verified Youth Sports Event

How is National Sports ID different from bringing documents to a tournament?
Traditionally, teams were required to bring physical documents such as birth certificates, passports, or report cards to prove player eligibility. These documents would be reviewed manually by tournament staff at check-in.

National Sports ID replaces that process with a digital verification system that reviews documents in advance and issues a verified Sports ID that can be shown on a mobile device or printed if needed.

This approach helps:

• Eliminate long check-in lines at tournaments
• Reduce the risk of lost or damaged documents
• Ensure documents are reviewed consistently
• Allow organizers to confirm eligibility before an event begins

The goal is to make the process easier for families while helping event organizers maintain accurate eligibility verification.

What types of youth sports organizations use National Sports ID?
National Sports ID is used by a wide range of youth sports organizations that need a reliable way to verify player eligibility, manage compliance, and organize their events.

Organizations that commonly use NSID include national and regional governing bodies, private youth sports organizations, tournament operators, city and county recreation departments, school athletic programs, and independent leagues.

Many club sports programs, travel teams, and multi-league event operators also use NSID to help verify player age or grade, collect required documents and waivers, and ensure that teams meet the eligibility requirements set by their league or tournament.

Because the platform is flexible, organizations can use NSID strictly for eligibility verification and compliance, or they can also use additional tools such as registration, scheduling, roster management, and waiver collection to help run their leagues and events more efficiently.

How do tournaments and leagues verify the ages of players?
Youth sports tournaments typically verify player eligibility by reviewing documents such as birth certificates, passports, report cards, or other school records that confirm an athlete’s age or grade level. Traditionally, these documents were checked manually by tournament staff during team check-in.

Many organizations now use digital verification systems like National Sports ID to review eligibility documents before an event begins. This allows tournaments to confirm that players have already been verified, reducing long check-in lines and helping ensure that athletes are competing in the correct age or grade division. Learn more about Tournament and League Age Verification.

Why do some organizations prefer digital verification instead of manual document review?
Manual document review at tournaments can be time-consuming and inconsistent. Event staff may have limited time to examine documents, and teams often arrive at check-in with different types of paperwork.

Digital verification allows documents to be reviewed before the event by trained analysts using standardized procedures. This helps create a more consistent process for verifying player eligibility while reducing the burden on tournament staff.

Many leagues and tournament organizers choose digital verification so they can focus on running their events instead of reviewing paperwork at check-in.

Why do youth sports tournaments check birth certificates?
Youth sports tournaments check birth certificates or similar documents to confirm that athletes are competing in the correct age or grade division. This helps ensure fair competition and prevents players from participating in divisions they are not eligible for.

In the past, tournament staff manually reviewed these documents during team check-in. Today, many organizations use digital verification services like National Sports ID to review eligibility documents before an event begins. This helps tournaments operate more efficiently while maintaining accurate and consistent eligibility verification.

Can National Sports ID be used across multiple leagues and tournaments?
Yes. Once an athlete has an active National Sports ID, it can typically be used for multiple leagues and tournaments that accept NSID verification.

Because the verification process is completed in advance, families do not need to repeatedly submit the same documents for different events. This helps reduce administrative work for both parents and event organizers while providing a consistent verification standard.

Organizations that use NSID can quickly confirm that players and teams have already completed the verification process.

What are the Sports ID cards used for?
A Sports ID is used to verify a youth athlete’s age/grade so leagues and tournaments know their eligibility for their events. NSID replaces having to bring a birth certificate, passport, state ID, report card, or other school documents to prove age and/or grade for a youth sports event.

What happens if a player does not have a verified Sports ID?
If a league or tournament requires National Sports ID verification, players must complete the verification process before they are eligible to participate.

If a player does not have a verified Sports ID, the team may be unable to complete roster approval or the player may not be eligible to participate in the event until verification requirements are met. Organizations set their own eligibility requirements, so players and parents should complete verification as early as possible before an event or season begins.

What are the benefits of having a National Sports ID?
A National Sports ID provides a number of benefits for youth athletes, including:

  • Verified proof of age and grade.
  • Legitimacy as a youth athlete.
  • No need to carry age/grade verification documents.
  • Promotion of fair play in youth sports.

Security, Privacy & Data Protection

Is my information and documents uploaded to NSID secure?
Yes. While no online platform can guarantee absolute network security, National Sports ID is committed to protecting your data through continuous security improvements and strict data-handling practices.

After your athlete’s verification is completed, uploaded verification documents are removed from NSID’s active systems in accordance with our document retention policies.

Our data protection measures include encrypted data transmission, AWS cloud hosting, secure firewalls, and SSL certificates. All payment information is processed securely by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant payment provider.

How does NSID protect the privacy of youth athletes?
National Sports ID is designed to protect the privacy of youth athletes. Public Sports IDs display only the limited information necessary for event verification, such as the athlete’s photo, verified age, and grade level. Sensitive information such as date of birth, home address, and identification documents are never publicly visible. Read more about our Privacy Policy.

What information is displayed on my son or daughter’s public Sports ID?
Sports IDs are not publicly searchable and are only visible within the NSID platform to authorized users such as the athlete’s parent, coach, or participating organization.

When a Sports ID is presented at a league or tournament, it only displays the limited information necessary for eligibility verification, such as the athlete’s photo and verified age or grade level.

Sensitive personal information such as school name, date of birth, home address, and uploaded identification documents are never publicly displayed.

How do I know my payment info is secure?
Your payment information is protected by industry-leading security. National Sports ID (NSID) uses Stripe, one of the most trusted payment processors in the world, to handle all transactions. Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant (the highest level of payment security), which means your credit card details are encrypted and never stored on NSID servers. In addition, NSID uses secure HTTPS encryption across the site and continuously monitors for suspicious activity to help keep your information safe.

What happens if I give false information or a fake document?
If a document is determined to be fraudulent, altered, or inconsistent with the information provided, National Sports ID may suspend the associated account and notify the relevant league, tournament organizer, or governing body. NSID takes document integrity seriously to help maintain fairness and eligibility compliance in youth sports.

What are the eligibility requirements for a National Sports ID?
The eligibility of teams and players will depend on the specific requirements set by the tournament or league they wish to participate in.

Verification Process

Does National Sports ID help prevent age fraud in youth sports?
Yes. National Sports ID helps reduce age and eligibility fraud by reviewing official documents submitted for verification and issuing a verified Sports ID once the information has been validated.

By verifying documents in advance and using a standardized review process, NSID helps leagues and tournaments confirm that athletes are participating in the correct age or grade divisions. This helps promote fair competition and protects the integrity of youth sports events.

How do we verify athletes’ documents?
National Sports ID uses AI-assisted document review with trained human analysts to carefully and thoroughly evaluate all submitted materials and perform multiple validation checks. If a document is determined to be counterfeit or altered, National Sports ID will suspend the associated account(s) and notify the appropriate parties. When accurate documents are submitted, a verified Sports ID is issued—helping ensure fair and honest participation in youth sports.

What documents are required to verify a youth athlete’s age for sports?
To verify a youth athlete’s age or grade eligibility, leagues and tournaments typically require official documents such as a birth certificate, passport, state ID, or school records such as a report card.

National Sports ID allows parents to securely upload these documents online for review. Once the documents are verified, the athlete receives a verified Sports ID that can be used for participating leagues and tournaments without needing to repeatedly submit the same paperwork. This helps simplify the verification process for families while allowing event organizers to confirm eligibility quickly and consistently.

Does National Sports ID use AI for age verification?
Yes. NSID uses AI-assisted document review with trained human verification to ensure accuracy, fairness, and accountability in youth sports eligibility.

How long does it take to verify a National Sports ID?
Most verifications are completed within minutes once all required documents are submitted. In some cases, additional review may be required, which may take a few hours.

Can the player use the NSID to join multiple tournaments or leagues?
Yes. As long as the athlete’s National Sports ID subscription is active, it can typically be used for multiple leagues and tournaments that accept NSID verification. Because the verification process is completed in advance, families do not need to repeatedly upload the same documents for different events.

Subscriptions, Pricing & Payments

How long is a verified NSID good for?
A verified Sports ID is valid for 365 days from the date it is approved. As long as the subscription remains active, the Sports ID renews automatically and parents do not need to resubmit verification documents.

Do parents or coaches need to upload player documents every season or year?
No. Once an athlete’s documents have been verified and a Sports ID has been issued, parents or coaches typically do not need to upload the same documents again for each league or tournament.

NSID securely retains the verified information so the athlete’s age and grade do not need to be re-verified each season. If the Sports ID expires and is renewed, previously verified documents generally do not need to be uploaded again.

However, if a league or tournament requires an additional document or an updated school record, only that specific document would need to be uploaded. This helps simplify the process for families and prevents the need to repeatedly submit the same paperwork for different events.

Why is NSID a subscription with auto-renew?
NSID uses an annual subscription so athletes do not lose their verified status during a tournament or league season. Youth sports events take place throughout the year, and an active subscription ensures that a player’s Sports ID remains valid and accessible at all times.

Subscriptions renew automatically each year unless cancelled before the renewal date. Renewal reminder emails are sent prior to billing. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time through your account—within the child’s My Account > Billing section for player verification, or within your My Account > Billing section for coach verification. You can review the full subscription terms in our Terms of Service.

Why do I have to pay for verification?
All the materials you are sending have to be thoroughly verified. While it may seem to be fairly easy, the process requires us to employ a team of analysts who have appropriate knowledge and experience. Our services are built to the highest possible standard and such – unfortunately – cannot be maintained for free.

How much is a Sports ID?
A Sports ID is just $10.00 per 365 days.

What payment options are offered for parents to sign up?
NSID accepts all major credit cards through Stripe, one of the world’s most trusted and secure online payment processors.

The system automatically notifies parents to review and sign the document digitally, helping leagues and tournaments eliminate paperwork while keeping all signed waivers securely organized and accessible. Learn more about NSID E-Sign Waiver Management for Tournaments and Leagues.

Coach Verification & Background Checks

What is NSID coach verification?
NSID coach verification is a process that allows organizations to verify the identity, background check and qualifications of coaches who are working with youth athletes. This process helps to ensure that coaches are who they say they are and that they have the proper training and qualifications to work with youth athletes.

How does NSID coach verification work?
NSID coach verification is a two-step process. In the first step, coaches must create an account on the NSID website and provide their personal information, including their name, date of birth, and contact information. In the second step, coaches must submit a copy of their driver’s license or other government-issued ID and a Coach Certification required by the tournament they are joining, or an NSID Background Check. Once the ID is verified, coaches will be issued a verified coach NSID. To learn more please click here: Youth Sports Coach Verification for Tournaments & Leagues

Who is required to undergo NSID coach verification?
A Coach will undergo NSID verification if required by the organization if they wish to participate in. However, we strongly encourage all coaches to secure a verified NSID to help build their coaching credibility through identity verification and certification validation.

What are the benefits of having an NSID-verified coach status?
NSID coach verification enhances a coach’s credibility. It provides reassurance to athletes, parents, and organizations that the coach meets the necessary standards. Some tournaments, leagues, or organizations may require coach verification as part of their eligibility criteria. Having an NSID-verified coach status ensures compliance with requirements, making it easier to participate in such events.

Are Background or Criminal Checks guaranteed to be accurate?
No. Background checks rely on third-party public records and reporting databases. While NSID works with reputable screening providers used by youth sports organizations, no background check is guaranteed to be complete or fully accurate. National Sports ID provides results as reported by the screening provider and does not make hiring, eligibility, or participation decisions based on those results.

Platform Features & Integrations

Can players and teams be viewed to see if they are verified or not?
You can search for teams to see if they are verified by NSID or not. You can do this by logging into your Dashboard > Search > Teams. Athletes cannot be searched individually on our system to protect their privacy.

Does a league or tournament have to replace their current registration system to use National Sports ID?
No. National Sports ID is flexible and can either serve as your complete registration and management platform or work alongside your existing registration system.

Many leagues and tournaments choose to use NSID for eligibility verification, background checks, waivers, roster validation, and compliance while continuing to use their current registration software. NSID also offers integrations and APIs that allow organizations to connect their existing systems directly with the NSID platform.

For organizations looking for a unified solution, NSID can also handle full registration, team management, scheduling, and compliance tools within a single platform. This flexibility allows leagues and tournaments to strengthen their verification and compliance processes without disrupting the systems they already use. Learn more about NSID Tournament and League Registration Software.

How can a league or tournament start using National Sports ID?
Leagues and tournament organizers can start using National Sports ID by creating an organization account and setting up their event requirements within the platform. Once configured, organizations can require teams, players, or coaches to complete the necessary verification steps before participating.

NSID can be used solely for eligibility verification, background checks, waivers, and roster validation, or it can also serve as a complete registration and management platform for leagues and tournaments. Organizations can choose the setup that best fits their needs.

Can National Sports ID help leagues and tournaments collect and complete required player forms or packets?
Yes. National Sports ID can assist leagues and tournaments with collecting and completing required documents such as player packets, registration forms, medical forms, or other documents required for participation.

Organizations can upload their required forms directly into the NSID platform and request that parents or coaches complete and electronically sign them as part of the verification or team approval process. NSID provides organized interfaces that allow leagues and tournament directors to track which forms have been completed and which are still outstanding. The platform can also send reminders to parents or coaches to help ensure that all required documents are submitted before participation.

NSID does not alter or modify the original documents provided by the organization. Instead, the platform assists by securely collecting the required information, helping populate applicable fields where appropriate, and providing a secure electronic signature process for parents and/or coaches. This process helps organizations reduce paperwork, keep required documents organized, and ensure that all necessary forms are completed and signed before participation.

How can leagues and tournaments create and manage their game schedules online?
Leagues and tournament organizers can create and manage their game schedules using National Sports ID’s online youth sports scheduling software.

The NSID Scheduler allows organizations to quickly build and manage schedules for tournaments or leagues, including pool play, round robin formats, bracket play, and multi-game guarantees. The platform considers factors such as team restrictions, venue availability, game intervals, and scheduling conflicts to help directors create organized and balanced schedules.
